This statue can be seen in De Smet, South Dakota (Washington Park). The town was founded in 1880. In 1905 it received its name to commemorate Father De Smet. De Smet is well known because of the famous book of Mary Ingalls "A Little Town on the Prairie". A the TV series made the "little town" very popular.
